A Certain Party
Upon my return from Ontario, I picked up with Bill Jaques and RC right where we left off ... if there was an excuse to have a drink we found it .. and the laughs came from everywhere ... we had the Athletic Club and the Holiday Inn lounge on the weekends .. and during the week we had the local tavern just across from Bill's townhouse .. The Roma ... a huge dance floor ... and a Chinese Restaurant where if you ordered food, you could drink beer to all hours of the morning .. and of course any excuse for a party at Bill's place ... and there was another music venue that we all frequented when the right band was playing .. I just have no memory of where it was ...
As we roamed the urban landscape ... we would run across other groups of friends .. and sometimes we would all join .. others just acknowledge the mutual pursuit of fun and laughter and carry on ... literally ... at some point in time here I was promoted and moved to the project engineering section as a planner .. this is where Yvonne worked as as an admin assistant .. I may the timeline wrong here ...
Yvonne was part of her own group of friends and we would run across them from time to time ... when summer rolled around Bill rented a cottage just outside the city on the river and for a month that became party central. There was one epic party where we proceeded to have a 50 foot bonfire and burn every dry stick we could get our hands on; Bill who didn't swim was last seen floating on an air mattress; a panicked search found him underneath the small cottage dock on the air mattress pleasantly drunk and enjoying the view; a control tech had us over to his trailer where he had a CB system strong enough that he could broadcast AM to everyone within about 500 feet; we gave everyone in that listening radius a drunken rendition of some Neil Young songs .. and I mean very drunk ... and very loud ...
Yvonne was at that party ... we all simply passed out somewhere .. woke up and started it all over again ... our party radius started to expand to surrounding towns ... I remember going to an open mic in one small coastal town at 9 AM on a Saturday .. at the local watering hole .. by 11AM Bill and I were well on the way ... Bill drove home (another shudder here) ..we napped and then went to the Holiday Inn ... closed it ... off to the Chinese restaurant ..
By now we were hearing stories of Yvonne's group .. and rumours of swinging from chandeliers ... walking on tables .. and relieving the band of various accessories like tambourines .. we were getting intrigued .. me especially ...
