Love Is Blind

So hows does someone like me meet women .. and yes .. then .. as now ... I identified as cis-gender ... well there are only two ways really ... a blind date ... or through work ... well maybe there is a third .. the woman makes the first move ... which reminds of two times that occurred ... the first was on a train from Truro to Sydney NS .. I was caught in the airplane strike in Toronto in 1977 .. so I took the bus as far as Truro .. grabbed a train from there .. an older woman on the train wanted to me to go to Halifax with her .. I kindly declined the offer ... the second time was when I was in Ontario for 4 months in November 74 - February 75 .. I went to a dance in an adjoining town ,, simply walked through the door and a woman immediately asked me to dance ... she wasn't wasting any time ...

I met the woman I thought for sure I would marry via a blind date .. I met the woman I didn't know I would marry at work ... so there you go ...

By the end of my second year boarding .. and my second year in second year ... I had made enough friends to realize boarding wasn't going to cut it any more ... so four of us made plans to rent an apartment in a new apartment building on Graham Ave .. literally a 2 minute walk from the Engineering Building ... I don't how we all got together on it but I think I was the driving force as I kept tabs on all the bills and apportioned charges accordingly ..

We had access to a hell of a lot of beer .. and that is all I am going to say on that front .. we had a party the night we moved in .. it was wild .. booze .. weed .. everybody necking on the floor .. in the kitchen .. the storage room ... courtesy of one room mate we had a cassette deck .. one speaker cone .. and a bunch of tapes and the music was magical .. in fact a few years ago I made a compilation of the albums we used to listen to ... that was one hell of a year ...

One of my roommates had a girlfriend who was studying to be a teacher ... there was a girl in her class she would like me to meet .. so could we set something up ... yes .. so on October 31, 1971 .. both women came to the apartment .. and that is when I met BD .. that is how we will refer to her ...

There are times over the years when I have pondered the aphorism ... 'tis better to have loved and lost .. then never to have loved at all' ... I tell you there are days when I think that is poetic bullshit ... and there are days when I think it is the wisest thing ever written ... it was the best of times and it was the worst of times ... and the worst happened all at once .. well it seemed to ... but before the straw breaks the camel's back ... the camel is under increasing stress ... telling this is going to be difficult .. but we have made it this far ... so .. here we go ...
